When God Works in the Waiting

When God Works in the Waiting

Lamentations 3:25 (ESV)

“The Lord is good to those who wait for him,
to the soul who seeks him.”

There’s something about July.

The excitement of summer has settled in. Vacation photos are being posted. Fireworks and celebrations occur. Gardens are growing. Kids have either declared they’re bored or they’re somehow busier than they were during the school year.

And somewhere in the middle of all of that ordinary life, many of us find ourselves… waiting.

Waiting for an answer.

Waiting for healing.

Waiting for a phone call.

Waiting for a new job.

Waiting for a relationship to be restored.

Waiting for God to make sense of something that still feels confusing.

If I’m honest, waiting isn’t my favorite place to be.

I like progress. I like checklists. I like seeing movement. Waiting can feel like nothing is happening, even when we’re praying faithfully.

But I’ve learned something over the years: just because I can’t see God working doesn’t mean He’s standing still.

Think about a seed planted in the ground. From the surface, it looks like… nothing. Day after day, the soil doesn’t seem to change.

But underneath? Roots are forming. Life is beginning. Growth is happening where no one can see it.

I wonder how often God is doing the same thing in our lives.

We pray for patience, and He’s quietly growing perseverance.

We ask for direction, and He’s shaping our character before revealing the destination.

We plead for immediate answers while He’s building a deeper trust that couldn’t develop any other way.

Waiting isn’t wasted when God is involved.

One of my favorite reminders comes from Isaiah 40:31:

“But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not faint.”

Notice it doesn’t say if we have to wait.

It says those who wait on the Lord will find renewed strength.

Maybe that’s because waiting with God is different from simply waiting on circumstances. One leaves us frustrated. The other leaves us transformed.

I’ve noticed that some of the sweetest moments with God haven’t happened after the answer arrived. They happened while I was still asking the question.

Sometimes He changes the situation.

Sometimes He changes me.

Either way, His faithfulness never changes.

So, if July finds you in a season of waiting, don’t assume Heaven has gone quiet.

God may be preparing something you can’t yet see.

He may be strengthening your faith in ways you’ll only recognize later. He may be writing a story that’s worth every delayed chapter.

Keep praying.

Keep trusting.

Keep showing up.

And remember that our God has never once abandoned a story halfway through.

Whatever you’re waiting for today, you’re not waiting alone.

He is already there, working ahead of you.

Prayer

Father, thank You for being present even when I can’t see what You’re doing. Help me to trust You in the waiting. Give me peace when I’m tempted to rush ahead, courage when the answers feel delayed, and hope that Your timing is always good. Teach me to see this season not as wasted time, but as holy ground where You’re growing my faith. Amen.
