This month’s Hope Blog is from Phil Wickham and it’s called Everyday Hallelujah.
Worship is the deep rhythm of heaven, ongoing and eternal. I’ve read that in some more liturgical church traditions, the leader of the congregation often begins by singing, “Let us attend.” I love this because it highlights that the congregation is simply joining the heavenly hosts who are already worshipping God. I think about this sometimes from the stage when I am leading the praise of a congregation. Every song we sing on earth is meant to echo that eternal chorus. Of course, joining the heavenly realm in worship is far more than singing. . . .
John describes what he is seeing in Revelation 4:“Whenever the living creatures give glory, honor and thanks to him who sits on the throne and who lives forever and ever, the twenty-four elders fall before him who sits on the throne and worship him who lives forever and ever. They lay their crowns before the throne and say: ‘You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being’ ” (vv. 9–11).
These words are a reminder that worship isn’t just our song; it’s our surrender of everything we are to the One who made us. The elders lay down their crowns because they know that every good thing they have is a gift from Him. That same act of surrender is what we are invited into every time we worship.
Worship is heaven breaking through. Worship is our response. It’s our echo of the song that has been ongoing since the foundation of the world, continues in the throne room of heaven right now, and will continue forever. When we lift our voices, when we surrender our lives, we are simply adding our everyday hallelujahs to the chorus of heaven’s eternal praise.
Prayer
Father, I want everything in my life, including my worship, to be an act of surrender. Please hear me as my song of praise joins the chorus of heaven. Amen.
