That’s What the Cross is For

This month’s Hope Blog is from Cade Thompson. It’s called That’s What the Cross is For.

When Regret Feels Heavy

Romans 8:1 (ESV)

“There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”

Regret often settles into the heart slowly. It begins as a memory but can grow into a burden that shapes identity over time. Many believers carry an internal list of failures that seems longer than their list of victories. The past becomes something they revisit repeatedly, wondering if they will ever move beyond it.

These lyrics were written for that tension…

“Do you have a list of regrets
That’s longer than it’s ever been
And you’re starting to shake
Under the weight
Of all your sin
Does your heart feel stuck in the past?
Spend all of your life looking back
The lies feel like truth
And you wonder if you
Can start again”

(from “That’s What the Cross Is For”)

Romans 8:1 reminds us of this hope. For those in Christ, condemnation no longer stands. The cross does not excuse sin, but it fully answers it. Jesus carried what we could not carry and paid what we could not repay.

Because of the cross, regret does not have the authority to define you. Forgiveness is not partial. It is complete.

Call to Action

Take a moment today to write down one regret that continues to surface in your heart. Bring it honestly before God in prayer. Then read Romans 8:1 again, slowly, and thank Jesus specifically for covering that failure with His grace.

Prayer

“Lord, where regret has shaped my thinking, renew my mind with the truth of Your forgiveness.”
