World on Fire
How bright is your light?
That question sits at the heart of World on Fire.
While travelling through Oxford, we came across a cobblestone cross marking the place where two men were burned for what they believed. It confronted us with the cost of faith for those who came before us.
People bled for this faith. People died for this faith.
And it made us ask ourselves whether we carried that same spiritual fire. Not fire for a political position or ideology. Fire for something greater than ourselves. Fire for Jesus and for the kind of life His Spirit produces in us. That left us asking a question we hope this song makes you ask too: Is my world on fire in a spiritual way? Or has my faith become kind of tame?
Jesus told His followers that they are the light of the world. Then He told them not to hide that light.
As children, many of us sang, “This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine.” It’s simple when you’re young. But what if the goal is for that little light to grow brighter as we grow older?
Maybe your light is burning brightly right now. If it is, don’t grow weary.
Maybe it’s barely flickering.
If so, this isn’t a reason for shame.
It’s an invitation to let God ignite it again.
Because before we go any further into this journey, there’s a question worth sitting with:
How bright is your light?
And tomorrow we’ll explore what the simple fact that you’re still here might tell you about why your life matters.
Reflection Question
Would you describe your faith right now as burning brightly or becoming tame? What has contributed to that?
Call to Action
Ask God to show you one area where your faith has become comfortable. Choose one practical way to live your faith more visibly today.
Prayer
Jesus, ignite something in me again. Keep me from settling for a faith that is comfortable but never changes how I live. Let Your light grow brighter in me and through me. Amen.
